SNAKE RIVER VALLEY MODELERS

Minutes - June 4, 2008

The meeting was opened by President Bob A. at 1935.

Treasurer's Report:

  1. $580.20 on hand. Five invoices were paid for sprinkler replacement parts, trash disposal to dump, pylon race supplies and equipment, a new wind sock and 1st Aid Kit supplies up dating.
  2. A discussion was held concerning membership dues. New members dues may be prorated into the club based on the month they join. Current member must pay the full dues regardless of the month they renew. It was mentioned that due a misunderstanding several members renewed and paid a less than the full years dues because they renewed later in the year. It was requested that those members make up the difference. Our club funds are low and we have some large bills coming due that may make it necessary an assessment of all the members to pay them. It was also noted that the current annual dues for the club haven't changed in over 20 years. This is something we might have to consider for next year.
  3. A motion was made to accept the Treasurer's Report was made by Dave C. and 2nd by Lynn H. The motion carried.
Minutes from the May 7, 2008 approval: The Minutes for the May 7, 2008 were approved by the members as e-mailed.

Old Business:

  1. Combat Meet Report, Saturday, May 10: There were about 8-10 participants. Lots of spectators. We need to have applications and info about the club to give to visitors and spectators. Something about how to get started to spur their interest. Lloyd Cline did a great job of M.C. The results of the meet are as follows:
     OPENSCALE
    1st PlaceJerry Haines, Jr.Mike
    2nd PlaceWayne Mayo Wayne Mayo
    3rd PlaceTodd HeintzJerry Haines, Jr.
Trophy plaques were given to the winners.
  2. Pylon Race Report: Saturday, May 24: (Jerry H., Jr.) This was our first pylon race. Three pylon poles, 20 feet high with boxes on top painted brilliant orange were used as markers. A flagger was placed at each pylon to signal as each plane successfully rounded it. The classes run were electric, nitro medium, and nitro high speed. Bob M. did a great job on the mike as M.C. No trophies or prizes were given because this was a trial race. It worked pretty well as pilots were getting used to running the pylons (some of them anyway). We plan to schedule another race. Bob A. spent about an hour and a half searching for his speedy nitro after his plane zoomed by flagger #3 so fast that he didn't see it and didn't wave his flag. Bob's plane kept going north. Bob realized something was wrong but by this time his plane was so far away that Bob lost perspective and in attempting to come back turned right instead of left and went up the hill, over the irregation ditch and down the other side of the hill to land? under a sage brush. Bob retrieved it, cleaned it up in time to compete in another race. Talk about not giving up.
  3. Lawn Mower Report: (Dave C.) The new mower is running good. Dave suggested that the new mowers motor be transferred to the old mowers frame and running gear because of the ease of operating the old mower.
  4. First Aid Kit Report: (Jerry H., Sr.) The 1st Aid station located behind the frequency tag holder, has been updated with new 1st Aid supplies. Access to the 1st Aid Kit is made by unlocking the combo lock with the same combo as the front gate. The 1st Aid station should be unlocked and open whenever flying is being done for quick access in case of an injury. Additional replenishment supplies are located in the shed, in the wooden box on the wall in the back. Additional note the Argus Observer is posting our clubs events on a regular basis in the paper.
  5. Flight Simulator: Status - Jeff D. and Bob M. currently in possession.
  6. Operation Matterhorn (Cross Country Flight) Report (July 26): (Lynn H.) David C. and Lynn H. had a trial run. The route is good, the time takes about 15 minutes driving the truck at about 35 MPH. Watch coming up the hill to the flying field at the end. Fly low so you don't lose sight of your plane because of the hill. Lynn passed out applications. If you need one contact Lynn at ldhyslop@bigskytel.com. They need some advance attendance info for food (breakfast at 0800) etc. Lynn also said that drivers for the flyers pick-up will be needed.
New Business:
  1. June 21. SRVM Club has been requested to put on a Combat Demo at Lewiston for the Lewiston-Clark RC Modelers. Bob A. said that 3 or 4 are going. Over night stay is being considered.
  2. June 28. Fun Fly - Jerry H. Jr./Organizer, assisted by Todd H. and Richard P. The usual events will be scheduled. The limbo poles are ready. Better than last year (Bob A.). Pilots must use the same plane for all events unless it crashes. Registration 9AM, start 10AM. Prizes will be given. A fee for entry will be collected. Contact Jerry H., Jr. for more info.

Next meeting Wednesday, July 2, 2008, 1930 at the flying field.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Lynn H. and 2nd by Steve B. The motion carried.

Respectfully Submitted,
